The x-ray shows you have a pleural effusion

Published on November 18, 2014

P – What does my x-ray show?

D – It shows that you have a pleural effusion.

P – What’s that?

D – It is when you have too much fluid in the space that surrounds your lungs.
There is usually fluid in this area, but in your case, there is more than usual. This can affect
your breathing.

P – What can you do?

D – We will have to drain the fluid out. We call it ‘aspiration of the fluid’.
To ‘aspirate it out’..we may use a chest tube.
