Thrombocytopenia

A low platelet (thrombocyte) count.
Less than 50,000/ml of blood
Normal platelet count: 150,000 to 450,000/microliter of blood
Possible symptoms of patients with thrombocytopenia:
■ Might complain of malaise (feeling unwell), weakness or fatigue.
■ Wound that continues to bleed, slowly (inside or outside the body)
■ Excessive brusing

● Can be a complication of leukemia or HIV, or idiopathic (cause unknown).

Sometimes, it resolves without treatment.
It can be fatal if the bleeding is in the brain, other areas can be treated. (see link below)
